Sharon Chandler
artist / Painter
I did not start painting at an early age nor did I show any interest in drawing, painting or even doodling. I guess you could say I was a "late" bloomer. I began painting just after I went "over the hill." I studied under Ms. Barb Dickerson who has painted and taught for 17 years.
Since most of my painting was done while I held a time job with the Environmental Protection Agency, and taking care of a family, I did not have many opportunities to do anything to promote or share my work unless you count giving my work to family and friends. In 2002 and 2003 I donated work to the Heart for Art Auction held in Covington Ga. with the proceeds going for the Heart Association. I donated a piece to the Art As Aid Auction with proceeds going to the Tsunami victims. Since I retired in 2004 I have been very busy. I join an Art Guild, became one of several artist in the Southern Heartland Art Gallery, Covington, Ga, and was recently accepted as an artist in the Magnolia Gallery, Reynolds Plantation, Eatonton, Ga. where my work is being promoted and sold by owner Lynn Blair. I was accepted in the 2005 Fine Art Show held by the Eastern Shore Fine Art Association, Fairhope, Ala in conjunction with the annual Fairhope Arts/Crafts Festival. This show has an attendence of 250,000 annually and is one of the largest in the country. Being accepted in this show was an accomplishment for me since it was the first show I had ever applied to participate in. I recently received an invitation to participate in the Eastern Shore Art Association's upcoming Art show, Grand Festival of Art by the Bay, Fairhope, Ala to be held in October. This summer I will be serving as camp administrator for the Art Smart Camp sponsered by the Rockdale County Council for the Arts to be held in June/July. This camp is for children interested in the arts.
I paint in oils, acrylics, pastel and mixed media. My work consists of realism, abstract/abstract expressionism and I have been known to use different means and methods in which to get the "look" I want. My goal is to have the viewer receive as much enjoyment in viewing my work as I have in creating it.
